Open Letter

I’m writing today because I have something of a challenge to present, but also an opportunity to bring some powerful and dramatic improvements to the way that you develop, maintain and innovate IT within your company, whether infrastructure, business processes, new software development or integration of third party applications.

Over the course of my career, I have worked with countries and cultures across the UK, Europe, Asia and the Americas on diverse technology projects covering automotive test and assembly, fuel injection R&D, chocolate conveying systems, dog food manufacturing, armament assembly and testing, grocery store POS, fast food franchise reporting and eCommerce platforms.  I’ve been an engineer, developer, business analyst, architect, people and hiring manager, product manager, director, customer liaison and salesman - and sometimes several of the above in the same day.  All of which gives me a broad, deep and varied set of experiences to draw upon when tackling any new task - which brings me to the challenge and the opportunity.

As a hiring manager, I understand that it is hard to handle the tidal wave of resumes and applications that result from any public posting of a new opportunity - and I appreciate the use of automated or manual help to filter those applications.  The challenge is that someone with my background and resume will very rarely make the first cut - even though they would far out-perform your expectations in that role, they don’t fit the “standard” model for that role and so are never presented to anyone who could appreciate the possibilities.

Which brings me to the opportunity.  I don’t know what specific challenges you and your colleagues are dealing with in your business, but I do know that the challenges have never been harder, with the unique combination  of COVID, remote working and now economical upheaval - companies need original thinkers and original solutions to old and new problems if they are to survive and thrive.  That’s where someone like me, who is educated, driven and experienced and absolutely does not fit the standard model, is essential and hugely valuable.
